Gonorrhea

Herpes genitalis

If you have complaints and cold sores and/or blisters, you generally do not need to take a test, because the diagnosis of herpes genitalis can often be made by the doctor, based on the symptoms and seeing the blisters. It is therefore wise to have the sores/blisters assessed. The faster you do this after the appearance of the blisters, the more convenient it will be. If you have any doubts, testing is possible. However, this is only possible when a strip of fluid can be taken of the sore.

This test is most reliable if the blisters have not been there that long. So don’t wait too long to make an appointment if you have sores. If the test shows that you are infected with the herpes virus then this test also tells you which type of herpes virus you have been infected with.

Mycoplasma genitalium

Testing for mycoplasma genitalium occurs in most cases after chlamydia and gonorrhea have been excluded and still have complaints. If you have been warned about this STD, you can of course also immediately test for Mycoplasma genitalium. However, it is important that chlamydia and gonorrhea are excluded.

Genital warts

Genital warts are caused by the HPV virus. They arise around the vagin*, penis,fst or anus. They start small and can expand in groups. They can be recognized by their pink-red or gray-white color.

Genital warts are common and can occur a few weeks or months after being infected with HPV. Just like other STDs, the virus can remain in the body for a long time without any symptoms. Be aware that the virus can be transmitted without you or a sexual partner knowing.
